NYC Semester Tours
8.5 million people. 23,500 restaurants. 165 public parks. More than 80 museums. Countless historic sites, galleries, and towering office buildings. Figuring out where to begin when you have one semester to get to know New York City can be a daunting task. To make sure you hit some of the highlights the New York City has to offer, several tours will be scheduled just for NYC Semester students. Tours will be drawn from those listed below.

City Hall
New York’s City Hall is well worth touring both for its architectural and political significance. Built in 1812, it is still used by city government today. Both the Mayor and the City Council work here, making decisions that affect one of the most important cities in the world. The building itself is a beautiful example of classical architecture and houses an extensive collection of presidential portraits. If you’re lucky, maybe you will catch a glimpse of Bloomberg as you admire City Hall’s rotunda or Governer’s Room.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Few museums in the world can match the Met’s collection of art and antiquities, which includes ancient Greek sarcophagi, an Egyptian temple, and paintings by Botticelli, Van Gogh, and Picasso. You could spend months or years studying the vast collection, but since you are only here for a semester, let Dr. Harry Bleattler give you a tour of the museum’s highlights.

Central Park
This 843-acre gem in the center of Manhattan provides much-needed green space in the midst of the urban environment. Its many attractions include the Great Lawn, the Sheep Meadow, Belvedere Castle, the Ramble, Bethesda Fountain, the Reservoir, Strawberry Fields, the Ramble, and so much more. Join Dr. Stephen Salyers on one of his popular walking tours to discover his favorite nooks in the park and to learn some of the stories of this historic park.

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York
The Federal Reserve building in the Financial District houses one of the most powerful economic institutions in the world. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York implements monetary policy, supervises and regulates the market, and works in foreign markets. While you won’t get to see any of these operations, the tour will teach you about the American monetary system, explain how the Federal Reserve works, and allow you to see part of the huge gold reserve stored far underground beneath the Bank.

John Stossel Taping at Fox Studios
John Stossel, host of a popular show on Fox Business News, welcomes King’s students to live tapings of his show. An advocate of free-market economics, Stossel discusses business and political news in an entertaining fashion. Whether you agree with his assessments or not, the show is sure to be interesting and informative.
